SUSTAINABILITY

What is Sustainable Agriculture?
Sustainability rests on the principle that we must meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Therefore, stewardship of both natural and human resources is of prime importance. Stewardship of human resources includes consideration of social responsibilities such as working and living conditions of laborers, the needs of rural communities, and consumer health and safety both in the present and the future. Stewardship of land and natural resources involves maintaining or enhancing this vital resource base for the long term.

All of our pears and apples come from a 5th generation family-owned orchard in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington State. The Stennes family settled in the beautiful Methow River Valley in 1894 and has been growing high quality tree fruit ever since. They started converting their orchards to organic growing methods in 1996 and now grow a great variety of Apples & pears in a dedicated grove especially for HOMEMADE BABY.
The Stennes Family lets the fruit hang on the trees just a little longer for Homemade Baby, to increase the amount of natural sweetness in the fruit.

"We are now five generations on this great land. It is a joy to see my sons and their families excited about sustainable agriculture and working hard to bring high quality tree fruit to market."
-- Keith Stennes
